We have both high praise and sharp criticism for the film, which captivated audiences with its amazing acting performances and profuse use of occult symbols, but ultimately feels godless and unable to capture the full awe and dread of the spiritual quest. Enigmatic pop singer Mary, who sings the Boys' Bible Study outro theme, was invaluable in the way she applied Jungian psychological theory to her critique.
